Hoxa Head is home to one of Orkney’s heritage walks (No 4), also a very popular spot with fishermen. The walk, which passes within six feet of the Tearoom door, has lots to offer, not only gun batteries and military buildings from two world wars, and stunning views over the Pentland Firth, but also an abundance of wildlife. can be seen throughout the year. Hoxa head is also a great place to spot cetaceans’ in the last year alone, Orca,, Minkie whales and harbour porpoise were regularly seen also a large basking shark. The Tearooms has a birds eye view over Hoxa Sound, the deep narrow entrance to Scapa Flow. It lies between Hoxa Head on South Ronaldsay, and Stanger Head on Flotta, This was known as the Hoxa Gate and was heavily defended during both world wars.
